WORKS ON PAPER: Drawing / Eight-Line Constellations

Eight-Line Constellations, 2017, is a series of 26 pencil drawings on bristol and mylar. The work was inspired by Picasso’s constellation drawings, Allan McCollum’s repetitive works and John Baldessari’s instructional pieces. Each piece begins with an original 6 in x 6 in drawing on bristol composed of one line with 8 overlapping segmented parts to create an open form with one dot applied at each end point. The drawing is then flipped over, a sheet of mylar placed on top, and the original drawing is traced. The work is complete when the reversed image is overlaid on the bristol drawing to create a more complex symmetrical form.
